» PLOT «
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

The main plot is very mediocre. Not only that, but this book feels very half done. Most of the action and the main conflict with the Erudite only happens at the very end. The main part of this book is dedicated to Dauntless initiation. And while it can be interesting, there really is no plot.

» READABILITY «
The book isn't bad, but I started it during the morning of a 24hr readathon and only read 10% before I stopped reading for the rest of the 24 hours. So yea...

» CHARACTERS «
Drunk Four is the only good character in this book. All of the other characters are too bland or underdeveloped.

» WRITING «
Mediocre writing, nothing too great or too bad.

» OVERALL «
People compare this book to The Hunger Games a lot, and they also say that The Hunger Games is better... They are correct.
