This book completely took me by surprise! I'm not particularly a huge music fan, so I wasn't sure what I'd make of it initially, but this mash-up of classical music, Scheherazade, the Beatles and more just WORKS. It's split into six sections, some are choppy and cyclical and some are more straightforward narratives, but all of them extol the sheer power of music. We see it everywhere, from the role music plays during desperate times of war and famine to the soothing effect of lullabies on babies. It's unique and poignant and fascinating. On the back it says Borges is an inspiration, and I know nothing about his work either and I still found this delightful. So just think about how much I enjoyed this book and then imagine you're a music fan or a Borges fan - or both! You're going to have an incredible time here!
