Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari

2.5 stars.

Nothing surprising here. You can pretty much figure out the course of what is going to happen within the first fifty or so pages, whenever it was the they flashed back to her high school trips to the nurse.

The "romance" developed pretty much from nowhere, and even if it did have some potential, it was all sucked away by another stupid pseudo-love-triangle.

The ending (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!) felt rushed and really, nothing was actually resolved. They got away from the baddies (mostly because Lucy coincidentally has the one thing in the world that could possibly save their lives that she randomly took from the doctor's office O.o), but went back to the same camp that they had been abducted from in the first place... WTF?! What is to stop the sweepers from just coming back and tasing them all again??

All in all, I had high hopes for this book. The setup has potential, but other books have executed similar ideas in a more believable way.
