I was very conflicted reading this. At times the writing felt awkward or uncomfortable - which maybe is expected as a white woman write characters of color. There were great messages and themes of sexuality, family, and identity. But it just was tainted to me because the characters all unlikable. While Evelyn may have redeeming qualities and a tough journey I did not like her. Watching her climb her way to the top was often cringe.
