American Royals
by Katharine McGee
The book started out okay and then went downhill.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some part of it that made me perk right up like THEY GOT STUCK INSIDE A STORM?? THEY HAVE TO STAY AT A HOTEL TOGETHER? THERE IS ONLY.... *audible gasps* ONE BED?! Some parts are adorable and the rest are just ??? This is all sounds incredibly white to me.
The problem with a book that follows so many characters like this is it’s hard for me to connect to any of them and I don’t sense that spark in any of the characters’ relationships. NONE. Not the love interest, not the friendship, not even the siblings relationship. Like.. I just don’t see it.
And Jeff?? This man is spineless and I have NEVER, i don’t think, not even once saw him interact with Beatrice and to me that is insane considering how they’re siblings and Sam & Jeff are supposedly joined by the hip or whatever. And what exactly do Sam & Jeff do in their spare times? Cause Beatrice is OUT HERE doing several things all at once and her siblings can just duck out of events and stuff and not even going to school? Is that how the royal family should work?
My point is, this book is just okay, it’s not bad but it could be better. It’s very reminiscent of Princess Diaries (the less fun version of it at least) with a hint of All-American Girl which is my favorite book by the way. It’s just... MEH. Will i be reading the second book? I don’t know, will the author try to make me care for these people??? Does it even get better??
