I was very much looking forward to reading this book. It is a different kind of book than the usual EH books. It is a slow burn for the plot and for the romance. Things really picked up in the last quarter of the book especially the last chapters. There was one point when I had to stop listening because I had to take a breath. So good!

Narration as per the norm was fantastic! Julia Whelan is the epitome of great narration. Reading the words with the correct emotion to keep you fully involved with the story. Every word pronounced correctly, every pause down without a sound, every voice consistent. JW makes a great book even greater.

“'He was the love of her life and he let the world make him too small for her. The world Freddy Ives lived in was built around him. There wasn't room for her.'
I swallow a knot. 'What do you think he should have done?'
She turns the full force of those shining blue eyes on me. 'For the one you love? Anything. You unmake the world and build a new one. You do anything to give them what they need.'”

“Love isn’t something you can cup in your hands, and I have to believe that means it’s something that can’t ever be lost.”

“Unfortunately, I’m still—at my core—me.”

“Half him. Half me. Entirely her own.”

“I find myself thinking that maybe every bit of heartbreak in life can be rearranged and used for something beautiful. That it doesn't really matter whether I chose this path or was born on to it, as long as I appreciate the path itself.”
