I was super happy to be reunited with all of these characters. Riden and Alosa’s relationship took a turn for the better and the angst between them was built up super well. They continue to develop a trust and respect for one another that becomes stronger than it was in the first book. It was very satisfying to see them finally be together as a couple because they had to work through so much baggage in order to get there. Besides that, the most interesting part of the story was seeing Alosa see her abusive father for what he truly was. He manipulated Alosa her entire life and cared about what she could offer him rather than her well being and loving her as his daughter. It’s a shame that she was not able to be reunited with her mother earlier, but it was great that she was finally able to know how much her mother truly always loved her. This sequel offers closure on a lot of loose ends from the previous book and develops the characters to be even stronger than before. I love the lore behind the magic and the sirens in this world too. I pre-ordered Levenseller’s next book, The Shadows Between Us, and I’m looking forward to it after reading this duology. I can’t wait!
