The Forever Summer
by Jamie Brenner
2.5 rounded to 3. The reviews on the cover calling this a beach read are 100% accurate. An easy, relatively quick read, and overall fairly enjoyable.
My gripes: none of the characters understand how to communicate. The author leaned on the lack of communication to drive to plot. It was maddening! When nearly all of the conflict in the story could have been solved with a simple conversation, it’s hard to take a story seriously. Some of the characters felt very two dimensional, and even the more fleshed out ones would make out-of-character decisions that took me out of the story.
Rounded up to 3 because it fulfilled its obligation as an easy beach read.
