Did we all read the same book? Like, this was not good, and it was especially not worthy of all this hype that it got. I'm just not understanding. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I hated this book and it was an extreme struggle to get through it. I'm so glad that I paid only 99 cents for a Kindle version of this and didn't shell out a lot of money for the editions that are hard to find and selling for a LOT of money on other sites. I truly wanted to DNF this so badly so many times but I perservered.

This was all just pretentious prose, to the point where you just kind of get sick of it. Like, really? Not everything is deep and philosophical. In fact, most things are not. It was beyond boring and it was clear what kind of vibe the author was going for and it just did not work.

I think I would have been okay with the pretentious nature of the prose, *if* the characters had been AT ALL likeable and if the story was a good one. To put it frankly, neither of those things existed. In fact, I really grew to hate both Aldo and Regan, with a fiery passion. Neither possessed redeeming qualities, which is essential unless the author's intention was to make them villains and they weren't supposed to be. Like, I understand that in a lot of books, characters start off broken but this was just... not even that. They didn't grow, they didn't change and they were both toxic. For each other and everyone around them. At one point, when Aldo breaks up with Regan, she literally fantasizes about stabbing him. I mean, I get that you're mad but WHY? That was just uncalled for. The characters were so one dimensional. I understand Regan was suffering from some serious mental health issues and I sympathize but then at the end, she makes it clear she will never take her medication and basically says, "Well, this is who I am, so deal with it." And everyone is just supposed to accept that she is a liar and a thief and criminal and and and... the girl is messed up and there is really nothing to root for, and I'm surprised Aldo was even with her???

There's no plot. What was the end goal here? It was them just talking, then having sex, then entering a relationship with nothing else. There was no climax! I kept waiting and waiting and there was NOTHING. Nada. Zilch.

I know damn well that the people who are rating this five stars and claiming the book changed their life and they wish they had dementia so they could read it for the first time again are LYING. You know this wasn't good and you're only saying so to feel popular or unique I guess?

I don't know, but don't read this book. Or go ahead and read it and be prepared for the utter shitshow this book was.
