» PLOT «
Eight years ago, a earthquake completely changed the landscape of the United States. Soon after, Ginny's mother left and never came back. After years of never hearing from her, Ginny finally gets a birthday gift. Desperate for answers, Ginny embarks on a dangerous quest to find her mother.

I knew I wouldn't like this book within the first 10 pages, but I stayed for the ending to see what happened to the mom... only to find out this book is only the beginning of a series. You know what that means? Nothing significant happens in this book. No major conflict or resolution that pertains to Ginny's relationship with her family actually happens. The only thing we get is from Ginny's uncle, and even that makes little sense.

» READABILITY «
Graphic novels are generally easy to read, even when you dislike them. This was pretty slow paced too, since this is not a full story.

» CHARACTERS «
I did not like any of the characters at all. They are living in a dangerous post-apocalyptic world, and it's just completely fine to leave with no protection or preparation? THEY BASICALLY HAD NO PLAN AS TO WHERE THEY WERE GOING OR WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO.

Starting with Ginny, I don't understand the need or desire to look for someone who abandoned you eight years ago. Not only that, but
attacking and being rude to the one parent who stayed, to the two siblings you abandoned, or to your best friend who is only looking after you is so entitled.

As for the two younger brothers, boy, were they stupid. I feel bad for their dad, and no wonder their mom abandoned them.

As for Ginny's best friend, halfway through the book she literally
comes out of nowhere. apparently she was following the main group, but that literally makes no sense, since their plans were not concrete or even semi-solid.

Finally for Ginny's uncle, aka
Four Dollars
, it makes no sense to why he would
hide his identity. What was his goal? Did he think he could continue drinking and "trying to find Odessa" forever? What was he trying (and failing) to do?

» WRITING «
The writing isn't bad, my main gripes have more to do with the story/plot rather than the actual writing style.

I don't feel like continuing the series, but unfortunately I do kinda wanna know what happened to the mom.
