I didn’t know anything about the plot of this book when I started it; I only knew that I wanted to read something by Louise Erdrich, as I’d heard so many great things about her writing. I wasn’t disappointed.

Her stunning prose drew me in, and the near-future dystopia that she created kept me hooked. With everything going on with the covid-19 pandemic, I took a short break from reading because the real world started to feel like it was ending, too. But I’m glad I returned to this and finished it, because unexpectedly, I was left with a sense of hope at the end.
