Wow that was painful to get through. I lost track of how many times I fell asleep

The concept for this book is incredible, so I don't understand how we got such a boring plot in a world so fascinating. The author could have done so much with this world, the characters, all of it, and yet it felt like nothing happened. I mean come on, a desert landscape with weird sand monsters and fire coyotes (which didn't even make an appearance throughout the entire book), rogue factions of exiled cowboys at war with each other, magical steampunk horses, gambling goddesses, a daemon main character, a witch for the other main character AND all the side characters, and so much more. All of these elements were present and yet nothing happened in this book. The plot was so slow paced that all the cool stuff mentioned in the Goodreads synopsis didn't even start happening until the 50% mark. I had such high hopes for this book and was sadly left extremely disappointed. I wish the author had explored the world outside of Elysium more, explored the Game and the Goddesses more, everything needed more. I know that this was her debut book, so I'm really hoping her next one will be better. She clearly has amazing ideas, just not great execution
