The Darkest Part of the Forest
by Holly Black
This was a really fun faerie read. I enjoyed the plot and the mythology and stories, but this book felt like it took forever to get interesting. There's was lots of set up and background information and flashbacks, so much so that I seriously thought there had to be a cliff-hanger ending because I was in over 150 pages and nothing remotely interesting was happening in regards to action. But the ending was pretty good. I really enjoyed the small bit of action faerie fighting that was teased throughout. That was well done. Especially with all the court politic. Perfection. I just wish it wasn't over 200 pages into the book. Especially in a stand-alone. It would make sense if this were a series, but it's not, so I would have liked it to be more balanced. It's still a good read though and I recommend it.
