This was the book I needed in High School, the book that couldn't be because it is so influenced by the lessons on connection that the pandemic gave us. It depicted lessons so often neglected in teenaged relationships, platonic and romantic. It held the philosophical musings of the author and highlighted the ingrained prejudices in many popular cultures. The adaptation of the play itself, the gentle nods to 2000s adaptations, to small characters in the original play were delightful. The book had me laughing out loud, trembling with nerves, and teary with emotion. The characters drew me in and for 300 pages played out a lesson that took me decades to learn. Thank you Alexene for writing a book that so closely touches my heart.
