Curious Minds
by Janet Evanovich, Phoef Sutton
If you ever wanted to read a book where Sheldon Cooper was the big sexy and Penny was Penny (but with more education) then you have found that book. Evanovich and Sutton have started what I assume to be a new series by the name of Knight and Moon. Our femme fatale is Riley Moon. She is a recent graduate with more student loans then all the gold in the the Federal Reserve. She gets her dream job working at mega bank Blane-Grunwald. Her first assignment is to visit well known reclusive Emerson Knight. All Emerson Knight wants is to see his gold, because he has a conspiracy theory that it no longer exists. Now both have to work together on an Indiana Jones like adventure to find the gold of the nations. I really enjoyed this book and found it to be funny and a quick read. After the disaster that was Wicked Charms I was not holding out hope for this title. Emerson is a likable character, and while he reminds anyone who has seen The Big Bang Theory of Sheldon, he has enough Howard mixed in to keep him sane congenial. It will be interesting to see Riley develop though the series. To keep up the analogy, she is a Penny with some Bernadette thrown in. I will say some of the action moves too quickly. It seems to jump from one idea to another without filling in the blank spots between. And one last thing, that I know is a total plot device, but still annoying, just because a vehicle goes over a cliff, it does not mean the engine explodes and is engulfed in flames. This is a tactic that is so Hollywood cliche. These authors could have come up with a better plot device. It is just one of the blank spots that I hope to see worked out in further books.
