This started really well, but then spent a long time making me wonder where it was going, which was sort of good because I kept reading to find out, but bad because it felt a bit aimless. But then the plot threads met up and it got good again. There are parts that felt a bit forced and repetitive, but it only got annoying near the end. I actually really liked the descriptions of primaries technology and how it worked. I'm not sure how historically accurate the gender politics were (I don't think ideas like love or monogamous marriage or even such strongly segmented gender roles would have come until much later in the development of human productive technology and class divided society) but it was a fascinating exploration none the less.
