Go with the Flow
by Lily Williams, Karen Schneemann
*Early copy won from Goodreads giveaway. Book given to me by the publisher! ⭐️*
So I won a Goodreads giveaway in November (I know I’m an awful person for just now reading this) and just now got around to reading the arc version of ‘Go With the Flow’.
This graphic novel is a middle grade/YA coming of age story, following 4 best friends as they tackle injustices in their school which have to do with periods.
I LOVE THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL. This is my favorite graphic novel I have ever read because:
• Their is a whole bunch of feminism, and girl ‘love’ spread in this book. The book itself sends a good message for younger girls, teens, and adults alike.
• The way the characters are written are amazing! Our characters are ALL unique. The whole time I was reading this graphic novel I was thinking, “All these characters are so different and unique and I LOVE it!” One of our main characters is a lesbian (maybe bisexual but it wasn’t mentioned). Her name is Christina and while she’s not exactly ‘come out’ yet, she’s definitely in love with a girl! Abby is an awesome feminist and an amazing artist (which is expressed throughout the story). Brit is a black MC, and Sasha (the new girl) loves music. All of these girls also have different body types, ethnicities, and skin colors and I LOVE it. It’s so diverse and such a great novel for younger kids and teens.
• AND THIS BOOK DELVES ON THE TOPIC OF PERIODS AND WHY THEY AREN’T A BAD THING! Periods aren’t a bad thing! And the way the book makes an amazing discussion and fights for equality with women and women’s rights + their periods is so amazing and such a great novel to read.
• And the art style is gorgeous!
All in all, I love this graphic novel with all my heart, and I’ll definitely reread it in the years to come!
