Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg
5.0

I liked this a lot. I don't know if it's really 5*, but it was more enjoyable than many of the other 4* reads, so ... I need to indicate that ;) I renewed my KindleUnlimited and this was available with text and audio. I've enjoyed several other series by this author.

This had two timelines - there was 1846, two POVs, switching between Merrit Fernsby and Hulda, and then 1820 - Silas. It is a 3rd person/past tense for all three POVS. The chapters aren't really marked as to who the main POV is ... here the audio has a bit of an advantage, as there are three different narrators, three distinct voices. Set back in the 1800s, it didn't feel very historical, as it was more of an alternate history, a bit of a steam-punk feel, but more with magic than technology. Magic, witches and warlocks are known and accepted and part of life. Hulda works for BIKER ... the Boston Institute for the Keepers of Enchanted Rooms. Merrit Fernsby's recent inherited house is enchanted.

This was just a cute, enjoyable read (even with the evil that Silas brings). Loved some of the thoughts toward drinking, reading, magic and romance. Little fun things, like the name Mr. Portendorfer ;)

This is the first in a series ... often I'll try not to even start a series until it's complete. But this wrapped up nicely, no cliff-hanger. I do plan to continue (and hope there is a recap before the next installment, for as much as I loved this, I'm not sure how strongly it will stick in my memory).
