myntop 's review for:
Wintergirls
by Laurie Halse Anderson
The writing and voice in this book is very powerful. I am incredibly impressed with Anderson's ability to get inside girls' heads like this and tell a story that is so difficult to tell.
I find it sad that so many girls are so affected by our society's image of perfection. I've found myself lost in that battle as well. I am so glad that there are authors out there willing to write the difficult stories and bring to light some situations that are often not spoken about.
I loved the parts in the book that were crossed out, so you could see the original thoughts in Lia's head and then what she changed them to. I also like how her inner thoughts of being unworthy were shown throughout.
I think this powerful story should be recommended reading for teen girls. Fans of Speak will also like this book.
