Finding Home by Roxanne Snopek
4.0

This is the first of the Montana Born Books that I’ve read (although I’ve been intrigued by some of them before) and I can definitely say I’m missing out on something because of it. There are a ton of couples and side stories that we get little glimpses of as we read Finding Home that I think some familiarity with the little town would have helped.

BUUUUT having said that, I did really enjoy the story that Snopek gives Sam and Logan. It mostly focuses on Sam and her ability to let go, to learn to trust and rely on others. From the bits we are given, we get that her childhood was anything but ordinary and now she’s dealing with being a widow and single mother of a special child. Having Logan back into her life and moving into the close knit small town definitely shakes her life up … but in a very good way.

Finding Home is novella in length – right around 100 pages – and I wish I’d had a chance to get to know Logan better, learn more of his history. He’s smart, strong, and very well liked. He cares about his community and the people in it. He wants only good things for the kids he teaches and pushes others to do right by them as well. He’s experience as an educator definitely comes in handy dealing with both Sam and her daughter, and his interactions with Jade are so sweet that I felt my heart melt. He’s just about the most perfect hero that I’ve seen in a long time.

Jade is a fantastically complex little girl and I loved how the community just accepts her as she is. Sam, though, is WAY wound up with everything that has happened in her life and she’s a little more hesitant to let that go. There are times that she isn’t very likeable but she is relatable and seeing her accept people more and more is a joy.

If you haven’t read any of the Montana Born Books either, don’t let that intimidate you. The story is good, the characters are intriguing, and you’ll find yourself rooting for the HEA as you’re glued to the pages.
