This was a lot better than I expected it to be. It was very mystery thriller with fantasy elements. It's my first time reading a movie to book adaption, technically, and it turned out pretty well. I haven't watched the film, but the book was a fun ride. I read the bonus chapter on the website with the ending and I'm very satisfied with how open ended it is. The author did a great job of keeping me on my toes and consistently not being sure of who The Wolf really was. The way the characters were developed was also nice. The true villain for me wasn't actually the Wolf, though, but the Captain and Solomon. Auguste was sort of an indirect villain for letting them both get away with so much, but at least he redeemed himself at least a bit in the end. I wasn't totally sold on the romance at first, but Valerie and Peter grew on me by the end. Also, by the end I think Valerie was shown based on everyone's reactions to the circumstances who her true friends were and which of them was too green with envy to care for her anymore. Overall, a solid read that I'm really happy with.
