This is the book that every student or lifelong learner of history needs to read. This book, and the commentary on the state of current historical study in academics is extremely profound, and I find very accurate. The false narratives perpetuated in the US educational system for centuries has to end. It is important for books to be written in this mold and highlight the professional irresponsibility from the textbook publishers, to state textbook review boards. Personally I would further extend the "fault" of false historical narratives and their teachings also being linked to politics. American politicians, particularly from the conservative end, are too fragile to have the true dark, genocidal history of America taught in schools. Or why do textbooks insist on spreading 'happy happy joy joy' feelings about a country that can most suitably be referred to as 'the Apartheid Republic of America.' Germany makes sure to teach all the horrors of world war 2 so that children will learn from the horrors of history. Cross the Atlantic and well, theocracy and white people, men specifically, are all that apparently matters per American texts.

I lived in the UK during secondary school, and without the use of a text, instead college style lectures allowed for better and more recent accurate historical information to be taught. I did go on to pursue a Bachelor's in History but as James Loewen highlights teacher's shouldn't tell students they don't know the answers. I always had a love for history, however my entire K-12 school career was filled year in and year out with pointing out falsehoods, as this book also highlights, and being told to stop asking questions, or you get called on less and told you're a nuisance. But President Wilson was a racist and you bring in books from a public library, alas no adult teaching history in elementary school wants a 3rd grader highlighting falsehoods. Major thanks to Mr. Loewen for this book, and its message. I was quite fond of his highlighting of the falsehoods and inconsistencies in texts, and calling out the historian Ambrose for his lazy citation and research, breaking the basic laws of the profession, despite contributing to a entertaining TV series, his poor research needs to be pointed out (My college professor's would use the term Barnes and Noble Historian and use him as a highlight of bad practice during college back in the early 2000's).
