Ever since finishing this book, I have been struggling to find the right words to express just how incredible Sarah McBride’s memoir is. The book follows Sarah’s journey towards living her life as her true self, after realising that she was transgender at a young age, but being unable to come to terms with this fact until her college years. Sarah is incomprehensibly inspirational, as a woman, as a transgender individual, as a wife, and as an advocate for equality. Her journey made me laugh, made me cry, made me angry at the state of the world in which we live, and made me grateful that there are people out there like Sarah McBride and her husband, Andrew Cray, who are fighting to change the world for the better. I found myself sobbing at multiple points during the book, as I fell in love with the relationship between Sarah and Andy. As a reader, I feel honoured that I have been given access into their most raw and powerful thoughts. Whether you know everything there is to know about transgender identities, or have no idea what it all means, you have to read this book. This is a true story of courage in the most desperate of times, and the determination to give voices to those who go unheard.
