Starfish
by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Trigger warnings: sexual abuse, parental abuse, suicide attempt
Oh my god, the emotions in this book! There's just something about the way that Bowman writes that just gets to the core of what her characters are feeling. Kiko struggles with finding confidence, struggles with anxiety, with feeling worthy of love. Her journey is a courageous one, one that many teens need.
Seriously, the emotions are what makes Bowman such a strong writer. She takes these characters and makes you feel what they're feeling. It's a beautiful thing.
