A very different book from Asimov. I’ve read the entire Foundation and Robot series and it’s nothing like that (except maybe the last quarter of the book). I believe it was part of the point Asimov wanted to make, that he could write alien/sex stories.

It is a mix of hard sci-fi and anthropological sci-fi. The mid section is particularly interesting and the most un-asimovian of the whole book. It is very original, but I get why it might not be for everyone.

It is not as enjoyable to read as other Asimov’s stories (especially the Robot series) but it is a very interesting book nonetheless and I do recommend it to any sci-fi fan.
