American Love Story
by Adriana Herrera
Edit: Upon reread, I've decided to give this five stars. I've read a lot more romance since I originally read this and I did not have the problem with the sex scenes that I did before.
This book has so much nuance in how it discusses race and class and the navigation of a relationship between people who are different in these ways. I appreciated that Easton and Patrice both made mistakes and learned how to improve their relationship and themselves in general over the course of the book. I was also emotionally invested in the characters and what was happening to them. The side characters were also great. I would have given this five stars, but I didn't enjoy the sex scenes to the point where I skimmed them. I know that's a very personal preference thing, but ratings are subjective and I can't give a book five stars if I actively didn't want to read part of it. There wasn't anything problematic, those scenes just weren't enjoyable for me.
