The Outsider
by Stephen King
My second reading - this time after all of the Bill Hodges books and on the way to reading the Holly Gibney story in Mr. King's latest - [b:If It Bleeds|46015758|If It Bleeds|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571399830l/46015758._SY75_.jpg|70552618] [bc:If It Bleeds|45754167|If It Bleeds|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571399874l/45754167._SY75_.jpg|70552618] I did say at the end of my first review that I wanted more! And I do :)
First review posted July 2018 reads.
Now before I begin I have to admit I did not realise this was a sequel to the Finders Keepers/Mr Mercedes trilogy. So, unfortunately, I have spoiled myself for the second and especially the third book. Aaaah Pooey :( So I would really recommend people read the other books first before starting this one. Also, Mr. Mercedes at least in my opinion is a better book.
Now as for the synopsis of this novel we have our typical Stephen King.
The first couple of hundred pages. A brilliant police procedural with a twist. Lovely foreshadowing. You are hooked.
Part two. The band of misfits gets together to investigate the supernatural force. A weaker character is mislead by the bad guy and is likely to do some serious hurting to our good guys. On no!
A weak ending (aren’t they usually in Stephen King) but I’ll not give it away.
And you know what; despite weak endings, there is a reason why I read everything Stephen King publishes. I enjoy his stories and, if I do not love all of his characters, I am intrigued by them. In this case I loved two of the (slight spoiler here) surviving characters and I am looking forward to reading them in his next book…
Recommended to fans of the Mr Mercedes series who would like to know what happens next to one of their favourite characters. Not recommended to those who haven’t.
