perid0t 's review for:
City of Demons
by Debbie Cassidy
Chronicles of Arcana was addictive to me. I started the first book and didn't put my kindle down before it was 4:30 at night and I had finished two books. The series is amazing and is continuous straight from the previous one so I'm going to write one review for all of them.
The covers are horrible to me, and I only read it because it was recommended to me on a facebook group and it was by mere chance that it was the FIRST book recommended in a series of many. Only reason I read it first. and boy. oh boy. I wasn't prepared to fall in love like this.
It's a rare thing that I finish a series and I'm furious. I'm furious it's over. I want more. I NEED more.
The series builds slowly, has plottwists I didn't see coming and has a very nice ending.
I really want more. I can gush about this a lot, but the series plottwists are too good for me to spoil. I felt.. some of them was a little rushed. Don't misunderstand, they where great. But this world? It's huge. it's complex. and has complex characters. The story is 4 books that start the typical urban fantasy way of an investigator getting tumbled into a mess that isn't theirs and end up in saving the world kind of stuff.
But at the end of the four books you have a chapter that says "4 years later".
I don't like that.
I'd wish there was 4 more books to give us a breathing room, to see romances expand, relationships build and get to know the culture of the two cities and how to make them get along well.
It's my only complaint: the author made a too complex world and didn't let us explore it enough.
Silly complaint isn't it?
If you like urban fantasy. Read it.
If you like reverse harem. Read it.
If you like urban fantasy but not really into the whole reverse harem, read it. It has a lot of romance elements but the RH part doesn't come until the very end and the only difference between a story with multiple love interests and this is that in the end she didn't need to pick. But most of the book she felt she couldn't be with anyone because she COULDN'T pick.
