The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang
4.0
challenging dark emotional informative reflective sad tense medium-paced

Wouldn't consider this one a book I'd personally recommend, to just anyone. That is because it should genuinely be read while in the right state of mind, having fully mentally prepared oneself for everything that is going to be depicted in it. Specially the physical format with its photographic annexes.

Simply put, it is a hard and uncomfortable read to get through. Though still a very important event of history, as crude and gruesome as it has to be described, that shall never be forgotten or even tried to be denied—as it has been tried before. It will be always remembered how this book managed to preserve the memory of the victims and approximate the real figures of the damages caused by the Japanese Imperial army during WWII, and later the Japanese government and other official adamant on denying their own reality, to be showcased to the world.

Through the epilogue for the 2011 edition we also come to find the tragic end of the author's own live, rest in peace, Iris Chang and thank you.
