Linger
by Maggie Stiefvater
Did you read Book 1, Shiver, yet? If no - spoilers ahead!
Sam, apparently healed from the same bacterial meningitis infection that killed Isabel's brother, and Grace are living in idyllic winter since Same is no longer shifting into a wolf. As spring draws closer, they hope to find Olivia changing back into a human and hopefully giving her family some peace of mind since they believe she has run away. But, as life often does, things are not so simple in Mercy Falls. Grace is sick, and the new wolves Beck brought into the pack are causing big problems. Will Sam ever get to start his real life?
Ah! I loved this book! I am so glad I gave this a shot even though Shiver wasn't my favorite. The big turning points for me was Isabel and Cole. Cole is so awesomely damaged and I can't wait to see where this leads the series. I love a hot rock star genius, even if he is a big old asshole right now. Isabel continues to be my favorite female; she's brutally honest, doesn't take crap from anyone, but comes through when you need her. I also love how combative (and HOT) her exchanges with Cole are. I see some good ol' drama coming for them.
This book also goes a bit more in depth with Grace and her parents' relationship. When they actually start acting like parents when and ban her from seeing him. Not such a crazy thing, and she acts predictably like a teenager. I'll love him FOREVER! You don't understand! Her mom's got a pretty good zinger for this exchange. I'll let you find it yourself :) I sympathize with both the parents and Grace, but I'm old so I would.
Honestly though, I don't see the point of Olivia. She barely made a presence in Shiver, and is not here again in Linger. Seems like a throwaway to me.
This book gave me some nice gut punch moments too. Can't wait for more!
