nicolealycia 's review for:
Children of Blood and Bone
by Tomi Adeyemi
When this book first came out I heard so many amazing things about it and I was so excited to read it. But then there was the whole thing with the author and Nora Roberts and it kinda put me off to the book for a while. With the sequel release nearing I’ve been seeing so many amazing reviews of this book I thought it was finally time for me to dive in and I am so glad I did!
Fantasy writers should take note that this is how you world build from the get go. Adeyemi introduced her world and her characters in such an entertaining way that I was hooked from page 1. And after that the story never slowed down once. Centered in a world where magic was taken away, our main characters are on a mission to restore magic and give the oppressed a fighting chance in a world that detests them.
I really enjoyed the characters at the start. I kinda got a little eye roll-y towards the end when the inevitable love story was introduced but I’m trying to over look it because the rest of the book was so epic. I do think this book would have been even better without it though, just saying. Because of it, some parts towards the end dragged a little after some of the insane scenes we got to read about earlier on. But it was the epic and insane scenes that made this a 5 star read for me.
I’m really looking forward to the sequel coming out now!
