“I am one of billions. I am stardust gathered fleetingly into form. I will be ungathered. The stardust will go on to be other things someday and I will be free.”
I always have such a hard time continuing series because book two is usually just not that great. We always get a set up for book three and sometimes it is not done well. I am so glad to say, that is not the case here. I found myself flying through this book because I just couldn’t put it down (except when I had to). I originally gave it 4 stars but it’s been sitting with me for a couple days, it definitely deserves another 1/2 star for that.
One of my absolutely favorite things in this book are the relationships. We have so many that I love but Zuzana & Karou are best friend goals. I loved Zuzana in this book way more than the first. She really came into her own and she does not fear anything when it comes to Karou. I loved how she just found friends out of monsters, are you kidding me?! The relationship between Akiva, Liraz, & Hazael is also very interesting. They are all so different and I love the banter. There’s a few relationships that I also love but will not talk about because I don’t want to spoil anything.
“Twice-daughter, my joy. Your dream is my dream, and your name is true. You are all of our hope.”
Taylor really expands on the world in this book. We get so much more on both sides. It’s all so scary and fascinating. The details could give me nightmares! I love where the story is going but I’m terrified of what it could mean for some of these lovely characters. There’s some really brutal scenes in this book that I was not expecting. It was quite heart breaking at times.
“It was brave,” countered Issa. “It was rare. It was love, and it was beautiful.”
I think I’ve become a huge fan of Taylor’s beautiful writing style. This was a fabulous “middle” book in a series. I am really excited to jump into the next book. I can’t believe it took me so long to read this series. On the other hand, I’m glad because I can just jump into the final book. I highly recommend this series!
