The Red Pyramid: The Graphic Novel
by Orpheus Collar, Rick Riordan
Even though I don't usually read graphic novels, I love the Kane Chronicles enough that I wanted to try this one, and I had such a good time with it. The story from the novel translates really well, and with much less cut out than I had expected. I was hooked by it within just a few pages.
The art is generally good, although I did feel Sadie in particular appeared much older than 12. It was great seeing all the Egyptian places and artifacts. I liked how the story was still told by the two Kane siblings, with different coloured boxes to reflect each narrator.
There are plenty of kids out there who will read graphic novels but don't much like prose ones, and this is a great way for them to enjoy Riordan's brilliant story. For anyone else, I would definitely suggest reading the book first, but this graphic novel is an excellent way to do a reread.
