A Deadly Inside Scoop
by Abby Collette
I'm not sure if I didn't like this much because of the book itself, or if it's because of the genre. I've never read a cozy mystery before, so I didn't quite know what to expect, but I thought this one was kind of ridiculous.
There were so many times the dialogue was really clunky and it really irritated me. There were about 15 different iterations of the same conversation, and sometimes the characters seemed really dumb.
Person 1: *says something about the dead guy*
Person 2: *says something about the dead guy but uses "he" instead of the dead guy's name*
Person 1: Who??
I swear to god this same thing happened at least 6 times that I can remember, and it actively killed my enjoyment for the book. And it seemed to happen every time pronouns were used in place of a proper name. It was really irritating. You're talking about a specific person, who else would it be??? Also the amount of jumping to conclusions was ridiculous. "I don't like this guy, so he MUST be the killer!!!" Sure, Jan.
All in all, I was pretty disappointed. If anyone has any GOOD cozy mystery recommendations, please let me know, because my first foray into the genre was pretty disappointing.
