This was a fun, fast-paced book that was very pleasant to listen to while out walking my dogs. 

It did bring to mind Percy Jackson, with the main character also having powers over water and interacting with various sea creatures (I loved the octopus). I do wish that the water dragon had been developed more as a character, as it felt like it was just there for plot reasons. 

There were messages about conservation which is always great in a middle grade novel and they didn't feel too heavy handed. 

Overall not a favourite but I did enjoy this and I suspect a lot of kids will love it.
