We start this book with a lot of chaos. Beatrix is trying to figure out how to get bye with no job and no money. There’s also looming hospital bills and Peter is not able to help with that (trying not to spoil anything). I did enjoy my time with this series. This book was the one that took the longest for me. I think the flow was a bit slower paced and there’s not a lot of action going on. We get towards the end and everything seems to happen at once.
There’s a lot of media intrigue about the couple and it’s a majority of the book. Some of the issues from the previous book are put on the back burner and we are more focused on the relationship between Peter and Beatrix in this one.
I am so glad that we get to see them explore their romance and see how they feel about each other. They do have such an unshakable bond and I’m here for it. I love that he’s so open about letting her have her own voice and exploring what she wants to do. As a woman, I’m loving that aspect.
I love a lot of the supporting characters in this book. I was a little upset about what ended up happening to one of them. It was so crazy and unfortunate. I know that she was a bit unhinged but it wasn’t her fault and ends up in a bag situation.
I think it took about 65% of the book for it to start to pick up. We start looking into things that happened in book two and where certain people are. I wanted to delve into the fact that in the last book women were learning to use magic. I know they were forced to stop but I wanted MORE of that. It was such an interesting part of the story and it was very minor in this book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. If you want to read about a slow burn romance, magic, and feminism, this is the book for you! I was happy with the ending and how things played out. I am interested to see what Colleen Cowley does from here! Here’s a little tip: These are available on Kindle Unlimited for FREE!! Give it a go.
