I’m so glad that I was able to revisit this world again because I missed it! The beginning of the story focuses more on the development of the relationship between Kazi and Jase, but I genuinely don’t mind that. I prefer characters to be well fleshed out at first in order for me to feel connected to them and actually care when they are in danger in the plot. Kazi and Jase come from vastly different backgrounds, yet are able to come together as people (they are chained together for a good portion of the book after all) and see that they aren’t that different after all. We also get to see each of them show off their skill sets and talents rather than have the author tell it to us. They weren’t together alone for a long period of time if I really think about it, but I mean, they pretty much saw each other at their best and worst and probably got to know each other more than most couples do while dating for longer periods of time. Therefore, the pacing of the relationship doesn’t bother me all that much.

One of my favorite parts of the book was how Pearson captured what it’s like to have a large family full of siblings with an array of ages. Despite not spending too much time with Jase’s family, each of them had a voice that was well distinguished for me, so I appreciate that. Wren and Synové were also a great addition to the cast of characters. They both are as witty as Kazi and each have their own merits that help enrich the plot of the story as well as establish that Kazi has friendships that she has built during her training with the Queen of Venda. When Kazi interacts with them it helps give a glimpse into who Kazi is without the author having to explicitly tell us.

**MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE REMNANT CHRONICLES AHEAD**

I have to say it was also great to see Kaden and Pauline again. I had a feeling that they’d get together and I was so happy that I was right! Also, seeing Lia and Rafe again as protective parents and strong rulers was incredibly gratifying. I’m glad that they were able to find a way to keep Jase and Kazi together and I'm really looking forward to the sequel (which I’ve already bought). I really love this beautiful world and I hope that in the future we get more stories and characters within it. Thank you Mary E. Pearson.
