I'll Be the One
by Lyla Lee
CW: Fatphobia, emotional abuse, HP references, conversations about homophobia
I loved the message in this book! Skye is a character that many fat girls can look up to. I really appreciated the conversations about Korean heritage and how fatphobia and homophobia play a role in the older generations. The reality TV aspect was very interesting as well. I liked how You're My Shining Star focused on dance and singing! I love books with competition shows and this one did not disappoint. I also don't have a lot of knowledge about K-Pop, so it was nice to learn a little about it! I listened to the audiobook and I would recommend it. The narrators do a great job of giving every character their own voice.
However, there were way too many HP references for my liking. I was getting very fed up with the repetitive references. I would recommend this because Skye's story is very important! But for any of my trans friends, go into it knowing there's going to be a lot of HP mentions.
