Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

SPOILERS AHEAD

This book was brilliant despite my doubts to begin with. I was skeptical going into this book due to the tiny font and it being around 370 pages long however i noticed how the pages just melted away. The narrator of Wade was humorous and brilliant and I quickly developed a crush on him. It was all brilliantly thought out from Wade’s escape from IOI to him detonating the bomb to destroy the orb (I was giggling throughout that chapter just at the thought of it).

Differences from the film - H was gay in the book! Which explains why she’s living on the run and I love the fact that she is a gay black woman, Cline I am in awe well done for making her so badass.

Artemis wasn’t part of some rebellion but just a 20 year old student trying to win the egg.

Daito and Shoto weren’t brothers and one of them wasn’t 11 years old, however daito dies which shows the lengths of IOI and the pure brutality of the time.

The eggs were all different, and you had to solve 6 riddles to get to the egg (riddle to find the keys then to find the gates) which was really clever.

I enjoyed how it immersed the plot in the game all the while adding spotlight to wade and other characters, I love how it was purely the hunt though. I’m going to miss this world so much, might have to watch the film again
