Garden Spells
by Sarah Addison Allen
I read this book by a recommendation of a dear friend. I had heard about it as well on What Should I Read Next. But until my friend gave it to me, I didn't think it was for me!
This book is about two sisters, who have powers. One sister cooks with items from her garden, which influence actions or behaviors. While the other sister has a talent to make others confident.
I was hesitant for the magic, but it was not so overwhelming that it took the book over. It's almost like a subplot to the life of these sisters. Their story and relationship dynamic is the main focus of Garden Spells and the author did a wonderful job telling the story. You can relate to the sisters-- in each their own ways. And the supporting characters add to the story without taking away from the main plot.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone, whether into stories about magic or not!
