Once upon a Nightmare: A Collection
by Cherie Reich
#1 Once Upon a December Nightmare
Cherie Reich's way with words sets the story and the eerie, snowy setting. Cassie and three friends go on a late night, off-roading adventure. Things get frightening when a fallen tree blocks their path and deer carcasses are found with their throats chewed out. Then the truck loses its headlights, forcing them to go on foot. This reads a lot like a horror story where the characters aren't all that smart. 1. They go on a offroad trip with an old truck on E. 2. Not walking the shortest distance to the main road. 3. Spitting up. The end was very exciting though. I was on the edge of my seat. 4 stars
#2 Nightmare Ever After
We're back n Tree Branch Trail! This story is partly in the perspective of an FBI Special Agent. The FBI agent works with Cassie to find the killer. He gets a little too friendly with her when they first meet (chin touching and caressing). I also found this to be slower than the first one, but the end was exciting. I like how things worked out. 3 stars
#3 Good Nightmare, Scary Monster
This story is in the perspective of the monster, which I thought was really neat. The best part is that he;s a kid, so we finally get to find out how he starts killing. 5 stars
Overall, these stories were very enjoyable and perfect to read in October or even December.
