Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
5.0

Kaz Brekker got me out of a 9 year reading slump.

My daughter turns 10 this year and since she was born, I haven't been able to get my brain to focus enough on reading to finish anything I have tried to start that wasn't fanfiction. I was doing my usual scrolling on TikTok and stumbled somehow into "BookTok" and this book was recommended a ton. I looked it up on Amazon and decided why not give it a go. I didn't do enough research into this to know that I should have started with the Shadow and Bone trilogy first but, oh well, what's done is done. I am the kind of chaos that reads things out of order anyways (I read the 4th Harry Potter book first and then went back and read the first three).

I was immediately hooked. I haven't gotten this invested in a universe since Harry Potter. I normally lean more towards the romantic aspect of fiction but this book is amazing. It was exciting, there was witty banter and every time you think things are going in one direction it ends up rearing right off course! The twists and turns and oh my!

Make sure you have a Crooked Kingdom handy because as soon as you are finished this you will need to dive right into the next one.

Since finishing this book I have read the entire Shadow and Bone Trilogy and a Crooked Kingdom and I have King of Scars and Rule of Wolves to read still. I cannot wait for the Netflix show to come out tomorrow!

Edited November 25, 2021: I just did a reread of Six of Crows but listened to the Audible version of the book this time! I have to say I enjoyed it even more and connected more to characters I did not connect to during the first read. This is definitely my favourite read of this year if not period. I highly recommend the audible version if you have not listened to it, it is fantastic! I still have not moved on to reading King of Scars because I am terrified of the feelings LOL.
