I really enjoyed the characters in this book and how the side characters had depth. I loved Jack and Andrews family and how welcoming they were to Ellie. The characters were very diverse in their gender and sexuality. I liked how we jumped timelines from winter 2022, where Ellie is engaged to Andrew so he can get his inheritance and give her money, and winter 2021 where Ellie spends Christmas Eve falling in love with Jack, who is Andrew’s sister. Some great character development and interesting conversations about failure. I really wish we could have seen Ellie’s art. The flashbacks are supposed to be the comics that Ellie writes about her day with Jack but it’s only text. It would have been cool if the author had partnered with an illustrator to make them comics but whatever. I feel like there were moments where Ellie was being told how she felt which I wasn’t a fan of.
