The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
3.0

3 Stars for The 5th Wave

When the first wave comes, all technology is gone in the blink of an eye. The second wave brings massive tsunamis and destruction all over the world. The third wave brings disease and death eliminating much of the population. The fourth wave destroys all trust in humanity because there is no longer a way to distinguish between the humans and the Others. The 5th Wave was worse. How do you win when you are battling yourself? How can that not intrigue you? I found the premise of the book incredible. It drew me right in.

Yancey's characters- Cassie, Evan, Ben, Ringer, Sam - you easily become part of their dysfunctional world. So what did I not enjoy? After the beginning and the explanation of the waves, things slowed down and dragged a bit. The end picked up but honestly, I felt that the book could have been edited better. Finally, although I know this is YA I found the book too predictable. It's nice to be able to follow what's happening but I like twists here & there that keep me second guessing. That didn't happen here. I was never surprised by what happened.

Still, I enjoyed the book overall and will definitely read the next book.
