Oh, Dante…
From the first chapter, I just jumped into the story and was there for all of it, all the way to the end.
And the end….oh, the end. All I can say is that I was lucky enough that I read it now when the next book is coming out in a few days :) Yeey!
In this world, magic is all present and it lets us see the intricate world of witches and taltos enriched with the magic that is the core of their livelihood.. Hungarian history is so wonderfully woven into the story and you also get to learn the history of your earthly neighbor. We need a lot more books that will be inspired by traditional folklore. On top of that, there is a mystery that needs to be solved, and a big one. So if you are looking for an action-packed story, a mystery to be solved, with strong and independent lead characters with love on the horizon, this is a book you should read.
Kitarni is such an amazing character, strongly determined, and fierce in any given situation no matter the cost… There is a chapter at the beginning that really describes Kitarni and their life in the coven, which I greatly appreciate and it helps you set an image of the character and her position and attitude towards the world.
Then there is Dante, taltos with all of his powers and his golden-ringed irises, with a look to kill :)
I like the first introduction of the Kitarni and Dante, the powers were out in the open, the tension of death closing on them is only bringing closeness in the future encounters, and there certainly was not a lady in distress that couldn't take care of herself :) and somebody (cough Dante, :)) thought it was hot :)
These are real enemies to lovers and you can feel the energy between them from the start but not in a way that overpowers the world-building and the political system of the world. Great writing is making it all possible.
