I found this book imaginative, fun, and whimsical, with plenty of loveable characters. I loved the worldbuilding, and the imagery - I could visualise nearly every moment in my head even on the occasions where there weren't accompanying illustrations! Speaking of the illustrations, they are gorgeous, especially the absolutely stunning design on the naked hardcover. 

As a long time fan of sci-fi and fantasy, I spotted some references that made me smile, including a chapter title that was a clear nod to Narnia! 

As an adult reader, there were certain things in the plot which didn't quite work for me, but I feel that had I read this book when I was a child, it could very easily have become a favourite! 

I definitely intend to pick up the sequels.
