Felix Ever After
by Kacen Callender
This book was one of my June reads for Pride Month, and I am SO glad I read it. As a white cis woman, this book was a great way to get inside the head of someone who is Black, queer, and transgender.
Felix is a high school student and an artist, dealing with a father who has helped him transition, but not fully accepted it. Felix walks into school one day to see a public gallery of pictures of who he used to be - telling him that someone hacked into his Instagram account to get those pictures. Then, he starts receiving private transphobic messages on Instagram, too. Felix hatches a revenge plan, thinking that he knows who’s behind all of the transphobia. But as he starts digging, he realizes that not everything is as it seems on the surface and his feelings are even more complicated than he realized. Felix Ever After is a journey of questioning, love, and self-discovery, and absolutely a must-read!
