I thought this was such a unique post-apocalyptic tale as it is focused on an internal threat that causes society's collapse which is otherwise experiencing cataclysmic events they could survive. The premise of losing the ability to dream outside of indigenous populations.
It provides a lot of commentary on identity and the lengths that people will go to for survival. Something I found interesting was how the author wove in multi-cultural individuals that may find protection or danger in their indigenous identities, and how those identities played into their lives.
There are definitely some dark moments in the story and while this does read as a found family journey, there is a lot of attention given to their individual stories and backgrounds and the lives that were stolen from them.
I definitely want to read the sequel but I do think I want to give it a little break first!
