I think the dull, cold, spooky atmosphere was very well done and immersive. I was expecting it to be a little more horror, but it felt very literary, which was a nice surprise! I think the exploration of grief through the supernatural element was very touching. I love a good personification of grief/death as a theme.

Mackenzie's family reminded me a lot of Blue's family in The Raven Cycle. A loving group of strong, supportive women. I love that dynamic.

On top of the family element, the way that dreams were explored reminded me of The Raven Cycle as well. Mix that with the nature based spookiness of something like The Only Good Indians or Empire of Wild made for a good time.

I give it 4 stars because I think it could have hit a little harder emotionally. Still enjoyed it overall!
