This book is just as gentle and thought-provoking as all of Chamber's work. It takes place over about one week on a barren truck-stop world with no native air, water or life. Many enterprising species have built habitation domes on the planet to serve as pit-stops for the travelers from the Galactic Commons and beyond who filter through its wormholes. The Five-Hop One-Stop is a relaxing multi-species rest place, with a garden, bathhouse, refueling station and shuttle parking, run by a quadrupedal mammalian alien and her teenage child. One fateful afternoon three visitors all of different species are trapped at the Five-Hop One-Stop by a freak satellite accident that temporarily grounds all ships and crashes planet-wide comms. This unlikely gathering- an exiled artist, a soldier on leave, and a barterer- end up spending the time sheltering in place together, striking unlikely friendships and emotional clashes. I listened as a audiobook and loved it.
